Summer is in full swing and the festival season is upon us. Festivals can be a wonderful way to bring a community together for fun, sun, music and arts. However, planning for these large-scale events can be a complicated process between the long hours, large scale venues and often times hundreds, or thousands of attendees. Here we have a few do’s and don’ts to help you get started and stay on track while planning your next (or first) festival.
Offering acts that can work both indoors and outdoors will give you more flexibilty when trying to position where you are going to have your entertainment area. It also helps when the weather does not cooperate and leaves you scrambling.
Set Up Plenty of Seating That is Covered or Shaded
Nothing is worse than having amazing entertainers and no one is watching them perform. Having ample covered seating is crucial to getting people to stop and enjoy the festival entertainers that you worked so hard to get.
Use Performers That Offer Multiple Acts
Most of the time a good variety performer will have more than one act up their sleeves. Why not book a comedy juggler that can also walk stilts to help you promote their show. The price might only be a little extra and you get 2-3 quality acts instead of one.
Festival Entertainer Dont's
Use the Cheapest Acts
Everyone knows you have a certain budget but it only takes getting burned once with unprofessional festival entertainers to realize; CHEAPER IS NOT BETTER! If you think an act is a good deal and you want to book them because they fit your budget then at least ask for testimonials before you take the plunge. A good variety act will have plenty of great reviews for you.
Get Stuck on a Theme
Themes are awesome but can really tack on extra costs. If you are dead set on theming your festival entertainment then make sure your performers can do multiple acts. I know it sounds redundant but if you are stretching thin on cash it can really save you in the end.
Forget About Staging and Sound
Just like the covered seating being needed, stage and sound are just as important. Having your performers elevated from the ground literally puts them on a pedestal and makes the show instantly 10X better. Its psychology if your patrons percieve the entertainment to be on a different level than them it will bring them to enjoy the act that much more.
So know you have plenty of advice to guide you through your next summer festival plan. We as performers appreciate everything you do in presenting amazing opportunities for us to perform and want the experience to be seemless and amzing for everyone.
If you are looking for a high energy, family friendly comedy juggler that will have the whole festival feeling like they were part of the show for your next event, give Bryan Dangerous a shout and lets start making those lifetime memories!
